End Stage Renal Disease Logo

The End Stage Renal Disease Network of New York is dedicated to improving the standard of care and the quality of life for renal patients and dialysis and transplant facilities in New York State.

End Stage Renal Disease Network of New York serves dialysis facilities and kidney transplant centers that provide treatment to over 20,000 ESRD patients in New York State. It is part of the national system of ESRD Networks established by Congress to help providers achieve high standards of care for renal patients.

How does the Network assist facilities and patients?

The Network Medical Review Board, whose members include physicians, nurses, a social worker, renal dietitian and patient representative, collects and analyzes data on the quality of care in dialysis units. These data are used to help dialysis units improve the care of their patients. The Medical Review Board also performs special studies to analyze outcomes of quality of care. Members of the Network staff are available to help facilities develop procedures and practices that improve quality of care.

The Network Grievance Committee facilitates resolution of complaints from patients about their medical care. Facilities are required by law to have a written policy to resolve patient grievances and to encourage patients to exercise their rights without fear of discrimination or reprisal.

The Network Patient Advisory Committee, through its patient representatives in the dialysis and transplant units, provides a link between patients and the Network. It identifies and acts upon issues of concern to patients and works to improve their quality of life.

The Network Clearinghouse provides a flow of information to all members of the ESRD community. It sponsors education programs, publishes newsletters and responds to requests for information and assistance.

The Network maintains a Patient Registry that includes all chronic dialysis and transplant patients in New York State. Its data reports are used by government agencies, research and health planning groups.

The Network Council, whose members include physicians, nurses, social workers and dietitians working in nephrology, as well as ESRD patient representatives, is the Board of Directors of End Stage Renal Disease Network of New York. All facilities in New York State that are approved by Medicare to provide chronic dialysis treatments and/or kidney transplants are members of the Network.
