Filing Complaint Information

Anyone harmed by an unlawful discriminatory practice may file a complaint with: New York State Division on Human Rights

The complaint must state the name and the address of the person who has discriminated against you and the facts concerning the discrimination. The complaint must be filed within one year of the alleged violation. A private lawsuit may also be filed in State Supreme Court within three years of the event if no complaint was filed with the Division of Human Rights.

New York City Human Rights Law also prohibits discrimination in employment against individuals with disabilities, and it covers employers with four or more employees. Any person harmed by a discriminatory practice may file a complaint with:
