Transplant Community Collaboratives

Ohio River Valley Transplant Coalition

Our History

The Ohio River Valley Transplant Coalition was founded with a mission to bring together professionals, organizations, and patient advocates dedicated to improving access to and outcomes of kidney transplantation across Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. The coalition was initially chartered to serve as a hub for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovative problem-solving in the kidney transplant community.

From its inception, the coalition sought to bridge gaps in the transplant system by fostering partnerships between transplant centers, dialysis facilities, Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), and community advocates. Early efforts focused on sharing best practices, identifying barriers to transplant access, and developing strategic interventions to address them.

Over time, the coalition evolved into a driving force for systemic improvements, spearheading initiatives that tackle disparities in transplant access, optimize organ acceptance practices, and streamline communication across the transplant continuum. Notably, the coalition played a key role in the development of Kidney Transplant Compare, a patient-facing application that empowers individuals to make informed transplant decisions.

Through strategic partnerships, the coalition has expanded its impact beyond immediate transplant concerns. Today, the Ohio River Valley Transplant Coalition remains committed to fostering collaboration, advocating for patient-centered policies, and ensuring equitable access to life-saving transplants.
